February 18, 2019 | JP De Silva

Sebring

Sebring Raceway has a long and storied history. Being one of the world’s most eventful year-round racetracks, Sebring International Raceway offers a variety of circuit configuration for private testing, club, and corporate events as well as practice sessions. For diehard race fans, it’s the perfect hub to experience the thrill of the track. Race car lovers from all over the world flock here to take in various races and feed their need for speed. If you’re planning to take your RV tour to Sebring, Florida, here are the five best races you shouldn’t miss in this world-famous racetrack.

Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring

One race that has stood out for the last seven decades is the legendary Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. The endurance race is an excellent event if you want to experience a spectacular festival of motor racing. Usually, the race takes place every third week of March each year and typically lasts for twelve hours. Since 1952, the event has been dominated by Porsche and Ferrari, with Audi, Mazda, and Nissan also winning at times. For 2019, this race will be actioned-packed. It will be preceded by the 6th round of the WEC Super Season (1000 Miles of Sebring). If you want to witness more cars, more racing, and heightened experience, purpose to attend this doubleheader endurance race weekend.

Pistons and Props

Pistons and Props is another motor racing event at Sebring. The race is usually a celebration of Sebring Raceway as a sports car racing facility with a long-standing history. For anyone looking to see some vintage cars and planes, this is the event where all these dreams come true. Seeing the vintage cars themselves is worth the admission fee. The thrill of watching these cars race at breathtaking speeds around the speedway is a singular experience.

Champcar Endurance Series

Want to rev your engine and shift some gears on the speedway? Champcar Endurance Series is the race for you. The race engages amateur drivers on the famous 3.74 mile Sebring speedway. While you don’t have to worry about the huge rulebook, hassles, or obscene car expenses, you must have a valid driver’s license, a car, and some safety gear to participate.

Michelin SportsCar Encore

Another race that brings IMSA champions and some other big-name drivers onto the racetrack is Michelin SportsCar Encore. The IMSA sanctioned this four-hour race and it features different classes of GT cars and LMP3 prototypes. One rule that stands out is that every race car must use Michelin tires. While it’s still a developing concept, last year’s inaugural event was, by all accounts, spectacular. This year and subsequent races are expected to be bigger and better.

Sebring drag racing

Last but definitely not the least is Sebring Drag Racing. The race features a variety of street cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles running on the famed Sebring drag strip. It’s the ideal event for anyone searching for a good way to get their adrenaline pumping behind the wheel. Whether you’re a drag racing fan or just an enthusiast, you get a four-hour window to watch or participate, provided you meet the bare minimums. Unlike other races, Drag Racing takes place on selected Thursday nights usually from April to December. Be sure to check out the Drag Racing schedule.
